We Pledge To;

– Inspire and empower young people to get involved in social action

Be helping organisations embed social action in their delivery and wider practice, we’re ensuring the sustainability of high quality social action opportunities in Manchester.

We’ve collaborated with JD Sports to enable young people to understand how their unique talents can be used to help others.

– Develop new, youth friendly social action opportunities

We’ve enabled 57 organisations across the 32 wards of Manchester to deliver high quality social action for their children and young people.

Through our partnership with JD Sports, we’ve created a brand new project for Manchester’s young people, providing social action opportunities.

– Promote and celebrate the positive role young people can play through social action

We’ve recruited 20 young people across Manchester to support and nurture young people in diverse communities to realise their potential.

Young Manchester and JD Sports’ Talent Search will culminate in an all-day showcase event celebrating the positive role young people can play through social action.

– Ensure young people have a voice and are represented in decision-making

Young people have been intrinsic in the decision making at Young Manchester since our inception. We ran a competition to find digitally gifted young people to design and create our website and our logo was made in collaboration with a group of young people. Young people have also been part of panels for Young Manchester during both commissioning and recruitment.

We recently trained ten young people as Community Reporters, providing them with valuable skills and giving them a voice to share their experiences of youth work within their communities.

#iwill is a UK-wide campaign aiming to make involvement in social action – e.g. campaigning, fundraising and volunteering – part of life for more 10-20 year-olds by the year 2020. Their aim is to create real and sustained societal change through galvanising cross-sector support from leaders in our society.

To do so, #iwill is calling on business, education, voluntary and public sector organisations to promote the benefits of youth social action, improve the quality of opportunities and increase the number that are available to young people.

Young Manchester urges you to join us in pledging to #iwill in order to improve the lives and opportunities of children and young people.

More then 800 organisations from a wide range of sectors have already pledged their support. Take a look here to make your pledge and find out more.
